Charles was born on April 22, 1949, to Robert Ruben and Margaret (Bachman) Barton in Severn, Md..   His love of music led to him learning to play the alto saxophone at a music accademy in Baltimore, MD.  He graduated from Arundel High School and participated in a marine technology class at the Naval Accademy in Annapolis, MD.  He also worked along side his father building and installing custom kitchens and bathrooms.

He served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea during the Vietnam conflict.

After the war, he entered the workforce as a cabinet maker. He married Betty Jean Rogers, but the couple later divorced. He entered into a mutual living arrangement with his girlfriend Bonnie June Singer (the couple never married but Oklahoma recognizes "common law marriage," which allows couples to be considered legally married without a license if they meet specific criteria, rather than just living together. The key requirement, is that the couple must mutually intend to be married, cohabitate, and publicly hold themselves out as spouses).

Charles enjoyed telling jokes, spending time outdoors fishing and indoors playing multiple games with his family.  He was a fan of the Baltimore Colts until they left Baltimore, and of the Baltimore Orioles.  From an early age he learned the scriptures and there was one verse he recited over and over "As you sow, so shall you reap"  Galatians 6:7

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Barton Sr.; and his common law wife, Bonnie Singer.  Also by his nieces, M. Kellie Hogan Cole and Salina Naomi Paul Cook and a nephew Patrick Michael Paul Jr.
