Are you prepared for the storm? Are your pets prepared for the storm? Remember to have enough pet food and fresh water on hand to keep your pet happy and healthy even days after the storm. Please do not leave your pets outside to fend for themselves during this storm sure to hit Florida. There are a few ways to help your pet go through the storm without being traumatized.
1. You can make them a warm snuggle place in a place they can feel safe. If you have crate trainned them it's usually best if you keep them in their crate and perhaps put a blanket or towel over them. This will help keep them calm. Some people plan ahead of the storm to escape the possible destruction of the storm by getting into a safe inner room. If this is the case for you it's time saving to place your pets in that room BEFORE you may have to use it.
2. Keep 'treats' handy and from time to time give them a treat this may help them stay occupied trying to get your attention for another one instead of being worried about the storm.
3. Calm your pet by providing what is known as a Pet Thundershirt. This can be any tight fitting garment that keeps your pet snug and calm. If you have never tried this technique now you have the perfect opportunity with Irma.
4. Fear anxiety can be a real nightmare to deal with for the pet and the owner. What soothes you may also soothe your pet. You can try soft music playing in the background or reading your favorite book in a soft whisper may help.
5. Storms, especially hurricanes can cause even human's to tremble with uncertainty, If nothing seems to be keeping away the nervousness curl up on your sofa or in your bed and let your pet join you for some much needed relaxation.
Stay safe.
